Josh Smith has been with the department of Virginia State Police for 20 years. During his time with the department, he has served in various roles and positions in the State Police. Currently, Sergeant Smith is responsible for supervising the Mass Transit Unit in Northern Virginia which is comprised of a Special Agent, Interdiction Trooper and two narcotic K9 Troopers. He has been assigned to this unit for five years. Smith operates mainly in the Northern Virginia area and focuses on the interdiction of large sums of narcotics, guns, money, and other illegal items being smuggled into Virginia through airports, parcel facilities, freight facilities, bus stations and train stations. In his position he keeps up with current criminal smuggling trends and assists with other cases generated by the unit. Smith assists other federal, local, and state agencies that have cases that involve mass transportation smuggling. Smith testifies in court for these cases in hopes of bringing a successful conviction.
